I’ve moved all of the Mitchell family related posts to the new Mitchell Family Blog. New photos and family updates will be posted on the new blog. Be sure to check it out. Note that a login is required. If you don’t already have a password, email me and I’ll hook you up.
I’m going to reserve this blog for strictly Brian Mitchell Photography related info. Look for lots of new shots from recent photo shoots in the near future.
P.S. I’m in the middle of reformatting most of the earlier posts to this blog so I apologize for any odd things you might see. Also, if you’re viewing this in IE, please switch to Firefox.

Shown above are two of my entries to the Huntsville Botanical Garden Spring Festival of Flowers Photo Contest. You can also view all the entries in this slideshow.

I’m getting into HDR or high dynamic range imaging. Here are a couple of my first tries. The first is a composite of 5 RAW images of the largest dogwood in Alabama at the Huntsville Botanical Garden. I didn’t have my tripod with me so the shots are little out of alignment.
The second is a psuedo-HDR made from one RAW image. I think it turned out well too. I converted both using the trial version of Photomatix.

From now on, I’m going to post all my family and personal photos to my Zenfolio account rather than Flickr. For one, you only need a single password to view the photos on Zenfolio, whereas you really need a Flickr account to view the photos there. Not surprisingly, not all of my extended family and friends want or need a Flickr account of their own. Ordering photos through Zenfolio also appears to be a bit easier than through Flickr. You don’t need an account to order photos, just a credit card.
The second reason for going with Zenfolio over Flickr are the display options. With Flickr, you’re basically stuck with their photos on a white background display. With Zenfolio, I’ve got a host of display and color options.
Lastly, I was able to map photos.brianmitchell.com (which is probably easier to remember) to brianmitchell.zenfolio.com for easy access.
Don’t get me wrong, I still love Flickr and will still post photos there. However, those will mostly be of the artsy, self-promotion sort rather than family shots.

Since everyone else is trying it, I figured I’d give it a shot too. Here’s a before and after of one of the photos from Mandy’s 30th birthday where I tried to imitate the Dave Hill look using Lightroom.
